Our Projects
Although all donations are welcomed, we strive to focus on the following key areas to support the workers and their families.

01
Care Packages
Sugar cane workers are paid an average of 3$ per day for 12 hours of work. Yet, the average price of rice is similar to Canadian pricing. Providing food for their families is very difficult. Donations for this cause help provide packages of rice, beans, oil, canned fish, and flour to families living in the bateys. Gloves and caps are also added to these packages for the sugar cane cutters. Each package has a retail value of 30$.
02
Dispensary
The congregation operated a dispensary providing medication to many workers and their families. They had to close their doors during COVID-19 and have not had the resources to reopen to the public. Donations for this worthy cause will allow the sisters of Marie to purchase basic medication and other health-related supplies. This dispensary must reopen soon.

Community Construction
Education is one of our main priorities. Although the Dominican government pays the teachers' salaries, the congregation is responsible for building the school. The student population has tripled in the last few years and continues to grow. For this reason, there is a pressing need for a new school to accommodate the growing demand. Donations will help purchase a new plot of land and build the new school.

04
Care for the Elderly
Sister Maude recognized the misery of the elderly sugar cane workers and their wives. Once a sugar cane cutter can no longer work, he has no means to provide necessities such as food and shelter. A nursing home was built on the congregation's property in 2008. The home now provides for 16 elderly men and women. The sisters rely entirely on the help of benefactors and donations to pay wages to the support workers and to provide food, nutrition, and care for the elderly. We need your help to keep this service running.
